We provide affordable access to medications for acute and chronic illness through the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program. SCHC participates in this program since we are a federally qualified health center (FQHC), and it allows us to offer a reduced or sliding scale price for qualifying patients.

Medication Take-Back Program

We offer a medication take-back program at both of our Sioux City and South Sioux City in-clinic pharmacies that allows patients to safely discard their unused or expired medications including: controlled substances, over the counter medications, creams, pet medications, supplements, and vitamins.

Patient Experiences

An SCHC male patient went to the ER with chest pain, and they found that he was having a heart attack. He was discharged with a prescription for a blood thinner that he couldn’t afford. When he tried to fill it at his regular pharmacy, he learned that it was going to cost over $500. The nurse at the hospital called our pharmacy, and we were able to fill the prescription for under $10 since he qualified for our sliding fee scale based on income.

An SCHC male patient with a wife and two children utilized our pharmacy to fill their family’s prescriptions, including insulin for one of their kids. Since they now use our pharmacy, this family is saving over $750/month on all of their prescriptions.

Pharmacy Assistance Programs

Pharmacy assistance programs are in place to ensure affordability of prescription medications. This includes a designated staff member to assist patients with eligibility determination and application process for a variety of manufacturer patient assistance programs. The Siouxland Community Health Foundation also maintains a donor-driven Pharmacy Fund to assist patients with prescription costs that have an identified need and are referred by their medical provider team.
